Jane Cross, MD

My first decision was to work with kids and then I decided to enter medicine and become a pediatrician.  I have always, always loved children.  And I have been fortunate to have had a wonderful many decades long career caring for them.

I took 7 years to get through college by spending time working in a Head Start Program in Colorado and living with Chicano families, volunteering in a mission hospital in Kenya and living with African nuns and working at an environmental camp.  But once I decided on medical school, I kept my nose to the grindstone.  My husband and I moved to Northampton in 1993 as we felt sure this was a wonderful place to raise kids (true).  I worked initially at The Holyoke Health Center and then Holyoke Pediatrics from where I retired in 2018.  I have been involved in global health for the past 20 years, usually taking about one trip a year to work overseas.  My longest commitment was to a hospital in rural Ecuador where I volunteered 8 times and my most recent past two trips were to work at a refugee camp on the island of Lesvos in Greece (camp is named Moria).  I was scheduled to work at the US-Mexico border when COVID hit so had to cancel but my goal is to get there this fall/winter.  A few colleagues and I also started a global health program at Baystate to support residents who wanted to work overseas.

My husband and I love living in Northampton and are delighted that one of our daughters has recently moved here as well along with her husband and our grandson.  Our other daughter is in Maine which is close enough (also married and has a child).  We love being grandparents!

I am excited to work per diem with NAP as I have always admired this group.  Holyoke Pediatrics and NAP have often consulted and shared medical information and practice management ideas.  I have great respect for the providers and am excited to be working with them all.
