Several of the generic versions of Concerta have been downgraded by the FDA recently due to possible problems with slower-than-expected release of the medication over the day.  If you or your child is taking generic Concerta, manufactured by Mallinckrodt, Kudco or Kremer’s Urban, this could be an issue. If your child’s medicine is working fine, it doesn’t matter which version he/she is taking.  There is no danger with these medicines, just the possibility of less than desired effect.   If the generic is “Actavis”, which is manufactured by Janssen, there is no problem.

Below is the link to the FDA update.   Call your provider if you have questions or concerns about this.  A prescription can be written for “BRAND NAME ONLY” or for the specific generic Actavis, or a different ADHD medicine can be considered.  Your pharmacy can tell you which manufacturer’s medication was dispensed, and whether or not they have Actavis in stock. A shortage of Actavis is possible due to this problem.
