“Award in Residency”
Dr. Jana Cable received the Daniel Trant Lareau Award in June 2014. This is an award for “Excellence in Clinical Judgment” that goes to a resident who goes beyond their duties to advocate for their patients while displaying excellence in clinical practice and judgment.
This award was started in 2011 by one of Hasbro Children’s Hospital’s former residents, Thirza Lareau. Her infant son, Daniel, would not have survived if it was not for one of the pediatric residents who diagnosed him with hypoplastic left heart syndrome.
Dr. Cable had a toddler boy under her care in the ICU during her residency. She diagnosed him with midgut volvulus that required emergency surgery and saved his life.
Jana is pictured above with Daniel’s grandparents, who live in Western Massachusetts, and came to visit her at NAP’s Amherst office. Congratulations, Dr. Cable!
