Lactation Consultant

kate bohn, ibclc.

I grew up in the Green Mountains of northern Vermont, the daughter of a lactation consultant and a chef.  Perhaps unsurprisingly, I love working with babies and their families, and I love food!

I moved to the Valley in 1995 to attend Mount Holyoke College, where I studied American History and Italian.  After graduating, I moved back to Vermont to pursue additional education in Pre-Med/Complementary & Alternative Therapies at the University of Vermont.  During my years at UVM, I began to recognize the importance of holistic healthcare and refined my focus to Women’s Health.  Love brought me back to the Valley and shortly after moving back, I began a Master’s program in Health & Wellness with a focus in Human Lactation.  In 2009, I became certified as a lactation consultant.  I welcomed my first child that same year.

I live in Amherst with my husband, Andy, and our children, Callum and Drea.  We like living in a vibrant and diverse college community, enjoy biking on the Rail Trail, hiking at the local state parks, and love spending time by the ocean.

In the years I’ve worked as a lactation consultant, I’ve learned so much from babies and families.  I am honored to support them and humbled by the sentience of even the tiniest newborn.  I continue to practice under the philosophy that healthcare is most optimally provided when approached holistically.  This is one of the reasons I like working with babies and their families—in the early days and weeks, and especially with breastfeeding, it is so important to consider the connection between mother and baby, between gestation and the world outside the womb, and between the physical and the emotional.

I am honored to work with the skilled providers and staff at Northampton Area Pediatrics and to have the opportunity to complement the amazing care they provide for families.
