We are excited to begin offering lactation services at Northampton Area Pediatrics. Kate Bohne, IBCLC will be available by appointment in both the Amherst and Northampton locations for individual consultations and weight rechecks related to infant feeding.  She will also stop by as families are meeting with providers during baby's early visits to introduce herself.

We're also happy to offer a second Breastfeeding Support Group at the Northampton location.  Now, two days each week, there are opportunities to receive free breastfeeding support, discuss infant feeding issues, and meet other parents.  The Breastfeeding Support Groups are intended for families with infant feeding questions and challenges.  They do not require an appointment and are open to the community.  Drop in anytime during group hours; each family's questions will be addressed in turn.  Many times, there are similar questions and concerns among families attending the group, which provides the opportunity for further exploration and connection.

Kate has been a lactation consultant since 2009 and has experience in hospital settings, clinic settings and with individual families.  She enjoys getting to know families and empowering and supporting parents as they navigate choices about feeding their babies.
NAP is lucky to have her join the practice!

NAP continues to stand by the importance and safety of vaccines for our children.

Please take a moment to read this statement from the American Academy of Pediatrics on the effectiveness and safety of vaccines, and another moment to read this commentary on vaccines by Dr. Sanjay Gupta.

NAP FLU VACCINE CLINICS
Please call our office at 413-584-8700 to schedule an appointment.

Flu clinics start in September.  We will still give the flu vaccine during well-visits, sick visits or nurse visits when the provider deems it appropriate and for as long as supply is available.

The flu vaccine is a safe and effective way to protect your family and have a healthier winter!  Because influenza can cause several days of fevers, sore throats and other uncomfortable symptoms along with serious diseases, NAP recommends flu vaccine for ALL children.

NAP is following the recommendation of the Academy of Pediatrics and the CDC and will not be offering the nasal flu mist this year.  Recent studies show that flu mist has not been effective in preventing current strains of influenza while the injectable vaccine has been very effective.
