Abby Whitman, LICSW

Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker

Abby Whitman.

Hello! My name is Abby Whitman. I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker and work on the Behavioral Health Team here at NAP. Prior to coming to NAP I worked in a variety of different positions with children and families. Initially after receiving my BA in psychology, I worked for an outreach and mentoring program in Springfield, MA. During this time, I was visiting families in their homes and familiarizing myself with the impacts of trauma and mental health concerns on the family system. I received my MSW in 2018 and most recently I worked as a clinician in Springfield Public Schools implementing various individual and group interventions in a Social Emotional and Behavioral Supports Program. Some of the concerns that I focused on were anger management, self-esteem, and coping skills used to assist with anxiety and depression. I have also worked in Crisis/ER settings, child welfare, immigrant and refugee populations, and with children and adults intellectual and developmental disabilities. Throughout my time in the social work and mental health field I have found that I have gained the most enjoyment and fulfilment in being able to assist children and families in navigating stressors and challenges that they are facing.
I have lived in this area my whole life and truly love the Western Massachusetts community! In my spare time I enjoy outdoor activities like hiking and kayaking as well as spending time with friends and family. Animals are another passion of mine and I currently have a horse and a cat. I love to watch NBA basketball and my favorite team is the Boston Celtics. I am excited to be a part of the NAP team and to be able to contribute positively to the practice and to the community!
