Lactation Consultations in Northampton, MA
The providers of Northampton Area Pediatrics understand how important it is to take care of both the newborn infant and the mother following birth. Some mothers find breastfeeding challenging, particularly during the first few weeks. An IBCLC (International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant) can help eliminate barriers to breastfeeding, provide education, prevent problems, and enhance the mother’s confidence, as well as assist with latching and positioning, and managing infant feeding.
Primary care providers collaborate with our IBCLC to provide breastfeeding management and support to parenting families in order to promote best practice protocols for infant nutrition and family health.

The Lactation Support Group can be helpful for weight checks for babies who are feeding well and could benefit from lactation support — and community! Kate Bohne can also provide support for parents and babies to fix latch issues in the early weeks of breastfeeding, as well as to address questions about feeding frequency and management, and integration of pumping and bottling.
Please note: more complicated issues and very thorough or specific feeding assessments are more well suited to a one-on-one appointment.
